A Golfing Article On Winter Golf For You ...

Winter Golf Tip - 1

Firstly, try to carry fewer clubs.

Remember that most of us have to carry our clubs through the winter as trolleys are banned.

An ideal half set to take would be a 3 and 5 or 7 woods, 5, 7, 9 irons, pitching wedge / sand wedge and putter.

The reasons for these clubs are:

  1. In the winter with no run on fairways, a three wood gives more carry and with winter tees in use, courses play short enough for a three wood.
  2. The seven wood is easier to hit off muddy fairways and from wet semi-rough than the longer irons.
  3. Using a half set of irons will not just make your bag lighter, but will also teach you more shots as you have to try and hit more half shots.  For instance, if you haven’t got a six iron you have to under hit a five or give it a good go with a seven.

Another good tip is to think about a softer compression ball than you use in the summer, as the cooler weather makes it harder to compress the ball.

Always make sure your studs are renewed for winter golf as, when the ground gets muddy, you need more grip when swinging.

With only using a half set of clubs another good tip I recommend is to get a micro light stand bag, which is super light and has a built-in stand to keep your clubs off the wet or cold ground.
